Official Dream Riders Expedition Protocol

Introduction

Spiti Valley is a high-altitude Himalayan destination known for rugged mountain roads, dramatic landscapes, ancient monasteries, remote villages and challenging riding conditions. A journey through Spiti can involve narrow roads, steep climbs, rocky surfaces, water crossings and long stretches with limited facilities. Riders need good preparation, controlled riding and the ability to adapt to changing mountain conditions.

Before starting your Spiti Valley Motorcycle Tour, make sure you have the required travel and riding documents, suitable protective gear and appropriate travel insurance. Check the latest weather and road conditions before entering remote sections, as snowfall, rain, landslides and road closures can affect mountain routes.

Spiti is also home to unique Buddhist traditions, local communities and fragile high-altitude landscapes. Respecting monasteries, villages, wildlife and the natural environment is an important part of responsible travel. Following your Tour Guide, Tour Manager and support team's instructions will help you handle the demanding terrain safely and responsibly.

Spiti Travel Do’s

CRUCIAL DO'S
Be prepared for rough roads, loose gravel, steep climbs, sharp bends and water crossings. Maintain a controlled speed and use appropriate riding technique instead of rushing through difficult sections.
Carry your valid driving licence, required travel documents and applicable permits throughout the journey. Foreign travellers should check the latest permit requirements for restricted or protected areas before travelling.
Check the latest weather and road conditions before riding towards high passes and remote areas. Conditions can change quickly, and snowfall, rain, landslides or road damage may affect travel.
Make sure your motorcycle is properly serviced before the ride. Check the tyres, brakes, chain, lights, fluids and other essential components, particularly before entering remote mountain sections.
Carry sufficient drinking water and stay properly hydrated during the ride. Spiti's high altitude and dry climate can increase the need for regular hydration, especially during long riding days.
Follow the Tour Guide, Tour Manager and support team's instructions during difficult road sections, water crossings, changing weather and other situations where local route knowledge is important.
Respect monasteries, temples, villages and local traditions. Dress appropriately at religious places, follow site-specific instructions and ask permission before photographing people or culturally sensitive activities.
Stay on designated roads and tracks and treat Spiti's fragile environment responsibly. Maintain a safe distance from wildlife, avoid disturbing animals and take all waste back with you.

Travel Don’ts

STRICT DON'TS
Do not underestimate Spiti's altitude and difficult terrain. Avoid pushing yourself when experiencing unusual breathlessness, dizziness, severe headache or other concerning symptoms, and seek appropriate medical assistance when required.
Do not ride aggressively on narrow roads, blind bends, steep descents or loose surfaces. Avoid risky overtaking and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and riders.
Do not attempt to cross swollen streams, unstable bridges or severely damaged road sections when conditions are unsafe. Wait for guidance from the tour team or local authorities.
Do not enter restricted or protected areas without the required permits or authorisation. Foreign travellers should follow the applicable Inner Line or Protected Area requirements for designated areas.
Do not litter, damage rocks or vegetation, disturb wildlife or behave disrespectfully at monasteries, villages, lakes and other natural or cultural sites. Respect Spiti's fragile environment and local communities.
